The Passion of The Christ

Victims will feel this undermines their desire to be free
This film is dangerous because it makes out that Jesus was a victim and implies that that’s OK.

This is confusing two separate issues. One who finds themselves within a violent situation, or at the hands of one who commits violence against them, is not always a victim. Are soldiers who fight for their country victims? Are the fire-fighters that risked their own lives when running into the Twin Towers victims?

No: A victim is someone who finds themselves the prey, dupe or target and who is powerless to defend themselves. Imagine all the children who find themselves in physical, sexual or emotional abuse? Imagine the women and sometimes men who find themselves in an abusive relationship. Imagine the person who finds themselves bullied at school, home or work? They are all victims in the most awful circumstances.

However, some are victims of tyrannical bosses who pay them slave wages, or victims of bad legislation which restrict their human rights, we shouldn't always associate the word victim with the word violence.

The key word here is POWER, a victim feels they have no power to defend them self against their abuser. They have not chosen to be in the situation, they just feel powerless to be able to change it.

At the beginning of the film 'The Passion of the Christ' we find Jesus in the Garden of Gethsemane in anxious prayer, here He talking with His Father and asking if it is possible for the cup of suffering to be taken from Him. He can walk away at this point. In the kangaroo court He finds himself in, He can walk away, He just needs to say the word. Again with Pilate, Herod and so on, He can just say the word and it’s all over. He can even call down angels at any time to destroy those who are punishing him, when He is taunted to 'come down off the cross' He had the power to do it  but He doesn’t.

That’s the most amazing thing – Jesus willingly chose this road to the cross, He wasn’t a victim, He was a man who had complete control over His destiny. The cross wasn’t the ultimate mistake, it was the ultimate plan.

In fact Jesus took this road so that every victim could find freedom through His cross. You can be FREE!
