So Much Blood? Why so much blood? Why did Christ have to die? There had to be another way, surely? Why blood at all? Is the question that first came to my mind, when I looked not only at the death of Christ but throughout the whole of the Bible, it seems such a strange way of dealing with the problems of humanity, but then it hit me! Blood is the source of life, without it we are all doomed, it really is a river of life coursing through our human bodies. There is no greater symbol for life than blood, and there is no greater way of demonstrating the cost of our wrong decisions than the shedding of blood. Let's get a few things straight, we all die, death is the perfect statistic one in one die! In fact as you read this 1.78 people are dying a second, that's about 107 a minute, as you read this you probably don't like the idea of that, but when all is said and done - we all die. We don't like the thought of it, because we were made to live forever, right back at the beginning Adam was made to live for eternity, but as a consequence of breaking the only rule placed upon him - he walked into death, unnaturally so, yes death is in a strange way unnatural, but now part of all our lives. So if death came through one man Adam, then God had to ensure that life came through one man too! He had to find someone who could live here on earth, faced with the same temptations and tests, but not buy into it. There was only one man fit for the job, not some unemployed angel, but God's own Son, he could face everything the world threw at him and still come through, everything we had to face, including death. And he did it, he walked where we walk, faced the same pressures, doubts, fears, rejection, temptations, but He beat them all. After watching the Passion of the Christ, there are times when you think, can a man take any more, what's the point of all this? The point is, that Jesus endured the worst any man will ever endure and then took the cross and died. Why the blood? Because by the shedding of Christ's blood we are now able to enter into His life - you see the horror of the cross is obliterated by the glory of the resurrection - a historical event, witnessed by thousands of people and showing that not even death could beat Christ. Why the blood? Because the blood of Christ is the source of life for eternity and is sufficient to rescue the whole of humanity.
