Love Forgives

In Matthew 18:21–35, we read a story Jesus told about forgiveness in which a king forgives a man a huge debt. However, when it came to it that man refused to forgive another a small debt. He was determined to get the debt paid straightaway and, when it wasn’t paid, decided to get even. He wanted revenge for the unpaid debt and he wanted it right now!

If you type in Google, ‘greatest acts of revenge’, you get some 66 million items to choose from. For example, the guy who knocked his house down when the bank were about to repossess it – “If I can’t have it, they’re not either!”

God does things differently and so should we – but a new beginning is possible through forgiveness.

For some, it’s the need to find forgiveness for themselves…

“For everyone has sinned, we all fall short of God’s glorious standard” (Romans 3:23)

We all do things, say things, think things, wrong. We all sin, and our sin separates us from God. But He made a way back, a way we could have a relationship with Him. He sent Jesus to die on the Cross, rising again 3 days later, ascending into Heaven, where He’s alive now seated at the right hand of the Father.

A new beginning is possible, and it starts by asking God to forgive us, by asking Jesus into our lives as Lord and Saviour – a brand new fresh start!

Once we have received that forgiveness, we are in a position to grant forgiveness to others.

Father God is faithful, just and if we admit our sins, he will forgive us.
