Summer Wildlife Activities – 2018

Nature is good for us! Research has shown being in or even just viewing scenes of nature, reduces anger, fear and stress, and contributes to physical wellbeing by reducing blood pressure, heart rate, muscle tension and the production of stress hormones. So, this summer, try to get out and about to make the most of the huge variety of events and opportunities to explore wildlife which will be happening in Kent for both families and adults.

For example…

Explore Kent offers information on many ways to enjoy Kent’s countryside with information on walks, cycle routes, events and a map of what’s where.

Another great site for outdoor walks is Walking in Kent which has lots of downloadable maps around Maidstone and other Kent towns.

Visit Kent could provide more ideas

Kent has many Country Parks we can enjoy and these often have their own events programmes – details on the Kent County Council website

The Kent Wildlife Trust (KWT) has an events calendar of study days for adults and events for families throughout the year

The RSPB also have many events for various ages throughout the year

The Medway Valley Countryside Partnership have some family events in July such as eco-poetry and plant hunting.

Seaside fun!

Shoresearch is a valuable way for grown-ups to enjoy the seaside whilst contributing to important data gathering

There are often opportunities for children to join in too with the Guardians of the Deep beach cleans and other events

If you are unable to get out and about you can still help the Guardians of the Deep project by knitting or crocheting sea creatures for their woolly chalk reef display to raise awareness of the diversity of life under the sea. More information…
Follow their patterns or create your own!

If you are able to get down to Dover, then look at the Up on the Downs website for details of their events

We hope you can get out there and enjoy God’s wonderful wildlife this summer.

We also wrote a post about summer wildlife activies in 2016 which has a few other ideas (as well as some of the ones we’ve covered here).
